Race Info
The Bonneville Backyard Ultramarathon is a last man standing race. You must complete one 4.167 mile loop every hour to remain in the race. Our course is an out and back, so about 2.053 miles each way. The race will start at 8:00AM on April 27th 2024. About 5 minutes before that ALL runners need to be at the starting line so we can paint a corral around you. This will be the measure we use to see who will be continuing each loop. Three minutes before the start and every subsequent loop we will blow a whistle three times. At two minutes we will blow it two times, and one whistle at one minute until the race/start of the loop. Then at 8:00 exactly, and right on the hour for every other loop we will ring the bell. If you are not in the starting corral when the bell is rung you are out. NO EXCEPTIONS. Congrats on your DNF! Its nothing to be ashamed of, everyone except one of you will get one. For most people this race is not about winning, it is about finding your limit. Hopefully pushing it further than you thought possible. Now we will go over the basic rules of the race and some important info. If you still have questions please reach out!
THERE ARE NO LATE STARTS. If you are not in the corral when the bell rings, no matter the reason, or the loop, you are eliminated.
There is no aid allowed on the course. This means that you are not able to accept food, drink, pacing, or other things from your crewmember after you have crossed the starting line. Aid is ONLY available at the base camp. Crewmembers and spectators are not allowed on the course during the race.
Along with no aid that includes no trekking poles. Camelbacks and such are permitted.
Unfortunately because there are other trailheads we are not able to close the trail, so it is possible there may be people there to use it as well. Please be courteous to anyone else on the trail. Although we are not able to completely close the trail, non-racers are still not allowed to be out there during the race.
Failure to follow race rules may result in being eliminated prematurely from the race. Please follow the rules and listen to the instructions of all race officials and volunteers.
We have a limited amount of space at the starting line/parking lot. Please be mindful of other racers and the public as you plan what/who you will bring and how much space you will take up. If we have a lot of runners we may have to limit crew/space available or have you park in another area, but we will let you know and update the website if it comes to that.
Directly surrounding the corral we will have space for each runner to set up a chair, small table, cooler, or other items you may need during the race so that it is easily accessible and not too far from the corral.
We will provide some basic foods but runners are responsible for bringing their own food. We are not able to provide everybody’s snack of choice and so we will just have basics. Think Coke, water, electrolytes, crackers, chips, candy, applesauce, and similar. We will try and have a light dinner and depending on how long the race goes a breakfast and dinner again. This will entirely be based on how busy the race is so again, please be prepared and bring food.
We will have bathrooms available at the base camp.
As you are eliminated you are welcome to stick around for a bit to cheer on the runners or help give aid at the base camp, but eliminated runners are not allowed back on the course.
We will not be chip timing or recording the times of each of your laps, but we will have a record of how many loops you have completed and how many miles you have run.
All runners must bring a headlamp.
Packet pickup will be at Runner’s Corner in Orem the day before the race(Friday April 28th). We will also have packet pickup the morning of the race at the start for those who come early.
